HUNDREDS of mourners turned out to celebrate the life of late Liverpool councillor Rose Bailey.
Cllr Bailey, who died of a massive heart attack while visiting her son in Germany, was laid to rest at a moving ceremony at Liverpool's Catholic Cathedral.
Merseyside Police, in full dress uniform, formed a guard of honour in recognition of the Croxteth councillor's 10 years on the police authority.
Friends, family and council colleagues from both sides of the political divide attended the funeral, which was conducted by her local parish priest Father Kenny Hyde.
He paid tribute to Cllr Bailey's tireless campaigning on behalf of her ward. In 2007, when the media descended on Croxteth following the murder of schoolboy Rhys Jones, Cllr Bailey fiercely defended the area in the face of speculation about gang culture and gun crime. Father Hyde said: "Rose influenced many of us here.
"Not just her family, but many of us here and in the city. She was the best type of citizen, inspired by her faith and bringing her faith and public office together in harmony
